Some interesting quilting motifs amongst some pretty applique designs.

I should have added more quilting motifs to the second design.

Very interesting design.

The blocks in this project file are based on designs I found in Electric Quilt library collections, most from Classic Applique, some from Classic pieced.. Every block has been modified, some just a little, some have had multiple surgeries. Some pieces from some applique blocks have been mixed up with pieces from other blocks.

Generations of quilt designers could shuffle the current collection of designs and still be designing new quilts, and probably still be shuffling the pieces in blocks to create new blocks. Of course, each generation of designers would have to use new fabric designs ...

I sort of like it, but I think the colouring is wrong, though it works in most of the designs in this project file. Too much of the dark red.

Exactly the same colours, but different blocks, and it looks much, much better!

A simple chane somehow made it a bit more exciting.

I like everything about this design. It isn’t the most exciting design, but I like the colours, the background quilting combined with the motifs used in the corners and the borders is the sort of quilting I prefer.

Don’t like the second one as much … centre is too busy compared to the corners and border.

I don’t like the cross hatching over the centre block, but I have left it there as an indication of the fill I would use in the background of all the blocks, but interrupted by the outlined applique and the quilted motifs.

Not sure I like the thread used for the quilting, but have tried quite a few colours and haven’t found the right one yet.

In a real quilt I would use a slightly darker thread in the background colour for feature motifs, and a a thread that matches as exactly as possible for the fillin, which I don’t usually add to my virtual quilts. My favourite fillers are pretty boring as I want the motifs and the pieced or applique blocks to be the feature, with the filler to be boring and a place for the eyes to ...

This project file is one of many which have had a Christmas makeover, but it wasn’t a major facelift.

I might find the time to change some of the green shapes to holly leaves at some point in the future.

Right now it is a nice way to wean myself off Christmas designs until next December.
